Thoracentesis
Thoracentesis
Thoracentesis is a procedure in which a needle is inserted into the pleural space (the area between the lungs and chest wall) to drain fluid or air. It is performed to diagnose and relieve conditions such as pleural effusion (accumulation of fluid), pneumothorax (air in the pleural space), or to obtain a sample for analysis. Thoracentesis helps in relieving symptoms and determining the underlying cause.
