Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is performed to save an infected or damaged tooth. During the procedure, the dentist removes the infected pulp from the tooth, cleans and disinfects the root canal, and then seals it to prevent further infection. Root canal treatment relieves pain, eliminates infection, and allows the tooth to be preserved and restored with a  crown.
